Not all 2021 interior design trends are staying in 2021! Several trends that sprung up this year are timeless and will definitely be transitioning into 2022 with us. Here’s a look at some of the trends we see sticking around:

Biophilic Interior Design
This is all about bringing nature indoors and we are so glad this is sticking around. It adds so much warmth and life into a space, especially after the last couple of years of mostly being isolated inside because of the pandemic.
Bringing in these organic elements like plants, woods, and natural textures and fabrics helps bring in a deep sense of coziness, fulfillment and joy for anyone in the space.
Transparency on how things are made
Sustainability has become increasingly more important to many over the years and that’s not going to change any time soon. Being mindful of this when choosing your decor and renovation materials will show your residents that you value this transparency and sustainability as well.
You may want to consider:
-
Energy efficient design including appliances, heating, and lighting options for residents
-
Eco-friendly materials including reclaimed wood, bio-glass, recycled metal, and jute
-
Green finishes like non-toxic paints

Maximalism
In the name of maximalism, more is more! While there’s a time and place for a minimalist design, we’re excited to bring maximalism into 2022 with us. There are so many ways to implement this design style through furniture, artwork, paint colors, wallpaper, and so much more.
Maximalism is all about expressing what makes you unique so this trend will surely help your property stand out from the rest!
Flexible Spaces
This is another design that’s become increasingly more important during the last couple of years due to the pandemic and it will continue to be important as we enter 2022. This means designing spaces that can have multiple uses so this applies mostly to your amenity areas.
Can your residents reserve the clubhouse or screening room for private events? Do you have a space they can work to get a change of scenery from their apartment?
Thinking about ways to create flexible spaces for multiple uses will provide so much value to your residents and help attract new residents too!

Monochrome Walls
While it might seem underwhelming to use a single color for your interior design, it actually can create a stunning, high-end look when done right. Monochrome walls can actually help highlight architectural details, unique textures, and organic elements.
This will create a timeless look for your space that your residents and future residents will love now and into the future.
Mixing Textures/Mixing Metals
Mixing textures and metals is one of our absolute favorite things to do for clients so as you can imagine, we’re very excited to keep this trend around. It adds so much visual interest to a room and allows you to blend styles and eras like adding a bohemian touch to a more traditional room or inject some coziness into a minimalist style.

Curves
Softer curved edges are sticking around for a while longer! These pieces bring lightness and a romantic feel to any room while also complementing angled pieces more. Everything from c-shaped sofas, soft-edge tables, and contemporary chairs to major renovation changes to create curves in a fireplace or architectural details.
Curvy designs will be sticking around for a while longer!
Concrete Accents
Concrete accents are one of those design elements that works really well with most design styles and helps bring in a modern, contemporary touch so it’s no wonder this trend will be joining us in 2022 as well. Its raw organic appeal has a purity while also having an abundance of texture that lends it a tactile quality.
You’ll still be seeing concrete in everything from floors and wall finishes to tiles and planters.

Green
We are very happy to see green on the list of 2022 colors. It will be a bit more muted in the new year but still provides a fresh, natural base for any room. We’re particularly excited about Sherwin Williams’ color of the year, Evergreen Fog.
Wallpaper
While paint transforms a room in its own right, wallpaper can add so much more by adding pattern and texture. We love using this for an accent wall to draw visual interest to a focal point in the room. We’re also excited to implement wallpaper in the maximalism trend too. So needless to say, we’re excited to bring wallpaper into 2022!
And there you have it, the 2021 trends we see coming into 2022 with us. Let us know which one you’re the most excited about in the comments.
